KIYAM - 2024
In Kiyam (pronounced kee-yam) Phyllis Sinclair leans toward an ancient Cree mantra. Loosely translated kiyam means “let it be” in her Cree language. She explains that while kiyam means let it be, it does not condone, nor excuse any disruption, offence or collapse. Rather, she says , kiyam means that for the moment we are willing to turn and face another direction while we stabilize to explore workable solutions. It’s a pause to reflect; a breath to restore, turning doubt to done, and fear to finished.

Suffused with prismatic cinematism, Ghost Bones pools a daring look at Indigenous realities ranging from social justice to Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls, juxtaposed with dancing northern lights, and going-home stars. Its spacious tribal atmospheric-ism subterfuges the hard-hitting depth of its topicality. While stars and northern lights may appear to divert from the album's ethos, on the contrary. These songs point to the power of her culture's spirituality, utilizing mythology, and astronomy to teach and sustain through centuries of deprivations and afflictions.

DREAMS OF THE WASHERWOMEN - 2016
Both tender and turbulent, Dreams of the Washerwomen is a ten song tribute album that pays homage to the two northern women who scraped out a meagre living as washerwomen to  teach, and to survive. Washerwoman's Lament is a day-in-the-life look at the mundane repetitiveness of the daily washing grind for two 1940's Cree washerwomen.
